ROUND TOP {Spring 09}: the Junk Gypsies
For those of you who are new around these parts then let me fill you in… the Junk Gypsies are a team made up of two Sisters {Amie Sikes and Jolie Sikes Smith}, and thier Mama, Janie. Based in College Station, Texas the Junk Gypsies have an online store known as Gyspyville, where they sell clothing, boots and jewelry, plus some home*goods with just the right stuff.

In addition their online presence the Gypsies also attend Round Top Antique Week every spring and fall where they set up a biggo tent smack dab in the middle of Warrenton, Texas. Their tented store at Round Top Antique Week is always filled to the brim with pre~loved treasures, bounty for your spaces, hip tees and killer jewelry. Also during Antique Week is the Junk Gypsy prom, an event that is quickly becoming a legendary, don’t~miss party.
The Junk Gypsies have had an enormous influence on cowgirl style, making torn jeans, pearl snap shirts and tutus not only normal, but incredibly hip. In the April 2009 issue of Country Living magazine Amie Sikes was featured with her “Secrets to achieving Cowgirl Flair”. On her list of secrets she included Dramatic Jewelery * BIG Western Belts * Vintage Boots
& Distressed Denim…

In this unique space of time in American culture it is refreshing to see a list of must~have duds that is completely ACHEIVABLE. It is no secret that everyone is experiencing a shift in their incomes… Amie’s “Secrets to achieving Cowgirl Flair” give us the confidence to dress on a budget.
For BIG jewelry you can go straight to Gypsyville ~ this NECKLACE is only $45!! BIG western belts are never too expensive at your local Western Clothing store. Vintage boots can be found at thrift stores, and for distressed denim visit your local Good Will. Of course Neimans has distressed denim, too…
