Vintage Camper REVOLUTION
I don’t know if it’s a hot new trend, or if my generation is just now catching up, but it seems like everyone I know is considering purchasing a vintage camper or airstream. Actually I can list a dozen people off the top of my head that have bypassed the consideration phase and have moved directly to PURCHASING a vintage camper.
Of course there are the Junk Gypsies and the Airstream they decked out for Miranda Lambert…
I also came across these images {that I’ve had for almost 10 years} of an Airstream that Ralph Lauren designed for charity. This is the essence of the romance and intrigue that accompanies vintage trailers ~ a love shack on wheels, a place for sweet, sweet pillow talk when you’re traveling the highways and back roads of this great nation…

{Architectural Digest, May 2001}
And it’s a trend that is definitely not limited to the USA… For example, I LOVE this trailer {BELOW}~ all red, white & blue. But I have noooo idea how to translate the website.
There is also the penthouse trailer park at The Grand Daddy in Capetown, South Africa. They offer a collection of vintage airstreams that are available to rent for the night ~ each one offering its own little capsule of style.
Not traveling to Capetown anytime soon?? You can also check out The Shady Dell trailer hotel in Bisbee, Arizona where nine fully restored vintage aluminum travel trailers await guests. They also have a Tiki Bus and even a yacht {docked on land} where you can sleep for a spell.
There is also a phenomenon of these vintage trailer fanatics traveling in packs… Sisters on the Fly is a group of women who “challenge ourselves in all that we set our minds to do. We have no age or color. We represent no religion or political group. We welcome all women who want to share the adventures of “sisterhood”.” They travel together in caravans, stopping on the side of the road for fishing, picnicking and camping. They offer special events & adventures for anyone who wants to join in the fun. These women are what bravado is all about ~ the fact that they are doing it on the road makes it all that much sweeter.
they even have a book if you want to read all about it…
All this looking gives me a hankering… we would love to find a trailer that could fit me & Brent & the whole posse of boys ~ maybe we need one of the big dogs, a Spartan Aircraft Trailercoach ~ I’ll put it on our wish list.
Hope y’all are inspired!! What are your VINTAGE TRAILER DREAMS???

They all look fabulous, and the Sisters on the Fly sound like a fun group. I like my more modern ‘condo on wheels’. We have a 2011 26-foot bunkhouse model travel trailer, with heat, a/c, tv/dvd/ipod, microwave, oven and stovetop….I guess you could say I have learned to like the luxuries of home on the road.

It’s fun to visit SOTF just to read the names of their “babies on wheels”! Some of ‘em just knock my socks off!
I still have the Casita de Trash, but poor thing. I haven’t done anything to her except clean. You gave me some great ideas with the RL interior photos!

Modern day living is so hectic that by the time you arrive home from work you are dead tired. The weekends present an opportunity for you to get away from all the noise and pollution of city life. Till a few years back, planning a weekend get away involved expenditure. However, during the recent times this has become easier due to the availability of camper trailers. You no longer have to worry about food and lodging. All that you have to do is to drive far away from the madding crowds of the city.

Anyone interested in a vintage airstream should check out the Vintage Airstream Rally every February in Montgomery, Tx. It’s well worth the trip and sooooo much fun.
