Another option when choosing carpet… these hip 19.7″ squares of FLOR Carpet fit together so that you can create a rug of your very own. Whatever size you need, color combinations, and textures… FLOR offers tons of options that will fit in any style of decor.

These are a few Rustic * Western spins on MODERN-ish spaces. The Cowhide squares {BELOW} would look darling in a nursery and the faux bois {ABOVE} is one I could live with day in day out… I have sworn that whenever we finally build the DREAM HOUSE there will be no carpet anywhere, just big area rugs. Now I’m also thinking that there will be some FLOR carpet tiles. Easy, dreamy and recyclable… the perfect combo for a boy’s room, don’t you think??

The FLOR Carpet Tiles require no backing, you can install them yourself, and they meet the Carpet & Rug Institute’s Green Label Plus standards for VOC emissions (Volatile Organic Compounds) AND are RECYCABLE… hip and green. I love it.

Thanks for the tip, Angie!! xo, fancy

If you’re not then you should be… Owned by husband and wife team Christopher and Suzanne Sharp, The Rug Company commissions world class fashion designers to create innovative rug designs that are more like RUG ART than Floor Coverings. In addition to stores in far away places like Moscow and Dubai, they also have stores here in the States such as their LA, Miami and New York locations.

I’ve had this image tucked away for years and thought it would be a good one for a little mid-week INSPIRATION…

This is “Elegant Cowboy” at its finest ~ a rich look for a home office, reading nook, or entry way. You can do it, too ~ here are a few places to get started…

Steer Skull
Available HERE from Jernigan’s Taxidermy
Let’s start with the Longhorn skull… a must have for any space decked out in Western decor. If nothing else then you need at least one hanging on your fence post.

Mica Lamp available HERE
Classic in style, this Mica Lamp Shade will cast an amber glow on your room, giving your space soothing low light.

Cowhide Chair
Available HERE from Thomaston Furniture
I was able to find a chair just like the INSPIRATION chair, but this is also a good idea of how one could re-upholster an antique store treasure…

Pioneer Antler Pull
Available HERE from Rocky Mountain Cabin Decor
Another great way to transform your flea market finds. The INSPIRATION image features a simple bookcase with Antler Pulls that give it a Rustic edge… you could add these pulls to any plain & simple piece of furniture for an easy transformation from
hum~drum to yee~haw!!

Two Grey Hills Rug
Available HERE from Garland’s Navajo Rugs
This is an original, folks, and an absolute beauty… If you can afford it then go for it!! For those of us who are looking for something more affordable, head HERE.

Just because the economy is in the DULDRUMS doesn’t mean you can’t have a TOTALLY HIP Western * Rustic * Vintage room!!
Real deal cowgirls would rather spend their money on HOT NEW Boots and prop them on a TOTE as a coffee table, versus buying new furniture. That’s cool, I get it… but you might be able to buy both. Here is a little INSPIRATION…

You really can have a look this FINE, without spending too much money!! Here are some BUDGET~friendly ideas…

Log Wallpaper from Wallpaper Connection
Building a LOG CABIN is a divine dream but while we’re all sitting on the fence waiting for the economy to turn, adding some LOG WALLPAPER to the walls will give you the feel without breaking the bank. At $30/roll you can cover at least one wall in a room with this RUSTIC wallpaper, then paint the other walls a woodsy brown or biscuit color.

American Living Bedding
I have been very impressed by the American Living line now offered at JC Penney. It’s Ralph Lauren feel is right on with the Rustic * Vintage vibe we LOVE. The warm look of the the American Living Bedding {ABOVE} is a easy twist on the bedding in our INSPIRATION room, and also priced fairly. For an even cozier look add a rustic pillow like the Judi Boisson Horseshoe Pillow {BELOW}.

The picture on the LOG WALL in the INSPIRATION room looks to be vintage. You can find some great vintage art at flea markets, antique stores, and even garage sales,
for not a lot of money… {Sometimes re~framing is in order to make an older piece POP.}
Another option is looking at Art.com which is where the image above was found. Art.com has an unbelievable selection and they offer great online specials. For example, this week they are offering FREE SHIPPING through Wednesday, use code: FS9SALE.

Small Cowhide Box
Because the DETAILS matter… this treasure box is a key component to re~creating our INSPIRATION room.

Liden Side Table from Ikea
One of the first pieces of furniture I ever bought with my own money was a dining table, similar in style to this table, from Ikea. I studied my way through college on that table, made scrapbooks there after a 10 day trip to Paris, have had romantic dinners there, and now I use that table as a changing station for my third baby. I’m guessing one day that it will go off to college with one of my boys…
So, yeah, it’s been a good investment.
This small side table from Ikea is simple and classic, easy to paint, or leave it alone to wear life’s patina.
For $29.99 you can’t go wrong.

Not long ago a friend sent me a link to Kravet Fabric’s MUSEUM OF NEW MEXICO Collection. The fabrics are stunning and as I sat down today to write about them I found much more from the Museum of New Mexico…

{Kravet Fabric’s MUSEUM OF NEW MEXICO Collection

In 1998 the Museum of New Mexico Foundation {a non-profit organization dedicated to four museums and six historical state monuments in New Mexico} established a licensing program “to generate essential revenues to help support acquisitions, exhibition development, and educational outreach programs at the Museum of New Mexico”.

{King Hickory’s MUSEUM OF NEW MEXICO Collection

The result is multiple lines of home furnishings from different manufacturers across the country. From fabric ~ to sofas ~ to lamps, each of these manufacturers has taken inspiration from the archives of the Museum and brings together the influences of the many cultures that makes New Mexico so diverse.

{Shaw Floor’s NEW WEST Area Rug Collection

It is the melting of these cultures ~ Spanish, Italian, Asian, Rustic Frontier and Americana, that combine to create the style we LOVE and represents each of us in some way.

NOTE: All of these companies are manufacturers, not retailers. I have provided LINKS to locating the retail store near you that carries these lines. You can also visit the ONLINE SHOP for the Museum of New Mexico Foundation.

Before launching CactusCreekDaily.com I would spend hours going through magazines and tearing out images for inspiration…
Below is a tear out that embraces the quintessential progression of the ‘Lodge Look’. No longer decorated with the dusty collections and antiquated rag rugs of the 1980′s, sophisticated home owners are now also embracing the ‘Lodge Look’. Designing rooms with a minimalistic attitude, these fashion-forward home owners are decorating in a style that can easily be described as Modern Lodge.

{Western Interiors, Nov/Dec 2006 – Room design by Kara Mann}
Here are a few www sources for re-creating this look that is sure to be a classic…

The must-have anchor for any Lodge Decor… an Antler Chandelier.
{Click HERE to order online from Aspen Lighting}

A modern round table is a classic piece in any home. Perfect for family dinners, cocktail parties and poker games – a table like this one will never go out of style.
{Click HERE to order online from Z Gallerie}

The upholstered dining chair is another furniture item that works perfectly in any decor – from the the ‘Laid Back Lodge’ look to ‘Time-Honored Traditional’.
{Click HERE to order online from Crate & Barrel}

Whether on the floor, hanging over the mantel, or on a wall – a cowhide rug makes a big statement!! Cowhides are also super-easy to keep clean, just vacuum like a normal floor covering and spot clean for accidents {I’ve had puppies piddle & kool-aid spill on my hides - each accident has been easy to take care of & left no “reminders”}.

While searching through photos for yesterday’s BLOG about the Tallulah Gorge I came across these Wall Murals from Art.com.
Yes, they are Wall Murals – the “Weathered House with Shutters” Mural {click on image ABOVE} is particularly stunning I think. It is actually made of three 4 ft x 8 ft panels. I think it would be a great way to give character to a rented apartment.
The “Un-Made Road” Mural {click on image ABOVE} would have been perfect to have in my office when I had a “real” job {“real” in that it was corporate and I was actually guaranteed a pay check every week – bor-ing – it didn’t last long!!}. During that brief time in corporate America I did nothing but dream of the OPEN ROAD and all that was ahead…
The “White Horse Staring Over a Wooden Fence” Mural {click on image ABOVE} immediately triggered visions of a cowgirl’s room. I have a client who is transitioning her little girl’s room from “pre-school princess” to “budding equestrian”. Inspired, I used some of my computer-geek skills to put together the whole look {BELOW}…

What projects do these Wall Murals inspire for you??

My friend Anna & her sis, Barbara, have been looking for new outdoor rugs. I have had outdoor rugs, produced by Mad Mats, for years and wanted to share them with you… All of these are available at OutdoorRugsOnly.com.

Anna is going to use her new Mad Mat for her Living Room where kids & dogs abound. To clean the mats you just take them outside and wash them down with a hose – this means no more worries about muddy paws or basket ball shoes!!

Barbara will use her mat on her sun porch. The mat {ABOVE} is on my own sun porch… I have had it for years and it has held up beautifully. It is a great pop of color and fun compliment to my peely-paint table…

Mad Mats are made from recycled poly propelene (the plastic used in milk jugs, soda bottles, and other kinds of packaging) – go GREEN!!

Woven in a similar fashion to flat weave wool rugs, Mad Mats don’t fade in the sun or trap water making them easy to use outdoors. All Mad Mats are fully reversible, they have beautiful, vibrant colors and they are easy to care for. The perfect addition to your summer decorating plans!!
All of the Mad Mats pictured are from OutdoorRugsOnly.com – visit their website for the full selection!!

Mad Mats can also be purchased from these online retailers…
