Seems like people have been saying that wallpaper is making a comeback for a while now… so is it still coming or are we there yet??   Wallpaper is a great way to makeover a space if you are on a limited budget ~ with a good wallpaper you can make a plain white box of a room into a rustic retreat, the OK Corral, or a fancy living room.

But here’s a GREENER approach to wallpaper, a way to spend virtually nada and also have a room that is completely unique to your style & taste… use recycled paper goods as wallpaper.  It can be anything you love, or you just think looks good…

Sheet music * pages from your favorite novel or book of poems * pages from a Dr. Seuss book for your kiddos * POSTCARDS {ABOVE} ~ I particularly love this one.  I think it would be out-of-control-cool to do an entire bathroom in nothing but vintage cactus postcards.

Maps * Vintage Photosgraphs * Newspaper ~ the sports page for the man’s room and sheets from New York Fashion Week for the girl’s room.

Rodeo posters, MENUS, Wrapping Paper {ABOVE} ~ in this image from Design*Sponge they used wrapping paper to line the back of these shelves, and also suggested using wallpaper to line your drawers…. ’cause who doesn’t want something pretty to look at when your going for your socks every morning?? 

The list goes on and on but the idea is simple ~ don’t throw stuff away!!

Yesterday I posted magazine pics from the mid-90′s ~ there was one series that I wanted to wait and share today, it’s this Tee Pee from a 1994 Architectural Digest Magazine that is just amazing…

The design is from Cassandra Lohr Design who has many beautiful projects in her portfolio but still features this Tee Pee as one of her greatest projects, it is easy to see why… I could play Cowboys & Indians all day long in this luxurious space!!

Cassandra Lohr also designs furniture and bedding, much of it like that seen here in the images of the Tee Pee.

Furniture artist Rob Gorrell has been making rustic furniture and contemporary tramp art for almost twenty years.  Like many artists Rob is committed to using salvaged lumber as often as possible, not only to pass along cost savings to his clients, but also as a part of his effort to re-use and re-cycle. 

Whether it be from discarded pallets or lumber that is deemed unacceptable, anytime we can use salvaged wood it is another step towards conserving energy and saving trees ~ just because some wood and building materials look like JUNK to one person’s project, Rob will use the discarded lumber and turn it into something beautiful.

Midnight Mirror

This tramp art mirror {ABOVE} is a great example of a 100% salvaged piece of art… much of the architectural elements on the mirror are furniture pieces that were found & waiting for the trash pile.  The other wood is from old pallets, the orange globes are from a glass factory that was discarding the “rejects”, and the mirror has been re-used time and time again since the late 1800′s.  That is Recycle * Repurpose * RE-LOVE at it’s BEST!!
