One of my favorite houses EVER from Country Living Magazine {Oct 2008}… this home was the first time that I saw industrial done in a way that made me say wow ~ I like that. I’d like to have a look like that. I wonder how many other people were inspired by this house and how much it contributed to the industrial look going main stream…

Now there are so many sources for the industrial look, and ideas for mixing it with a rustic element, but it is still a fresh look that everyone does in their own way… here are a few sources if you’re looking to make this happen in your house.

Matera Bed from Design Within Reach

Industrial Lighting from Barn Light Electric

Not the kind of GREEN you’re thinking… the other day someone asked me my favorite color. It’s green. Any shade of green but especially cactus green {some people may call that puke green but I think it’s kind of special}. Then I came across someone who was asked ten things about themselves, one of the things said was ”I hate green”. Seriously?? how could you hate green??

I first started loving that color when I moved from Texas to Kansas after college. The green fields made me grateful to be free and independent, greatful for God’s grace and beauty!! Anyway, I’m writing about this because I found this room and I fell for it… I could sleep here the rest of my life.
And here’s some other GREEN stuff you might love
{if you don’t hate green}…

Green Hide Rug from Kyle Bunting

Green Composition Book from Scout Books

Apple Green Giant Cowl from Renegade Handmade
Industrial Iron Console from Terrain
Look at the details on this table… so fine. (more…)

I haven’t spent time looking at Southern Living Magazine since I was 12 and spending summers with my grandmother. Shame on me…turns out our Mother’s decorating Bible has more to offer than I remembered… these rooms from the Jan 2011 issue of Southern Living are all of the things we love ~ peely-paint furniture, industrial iron, and a Western edge. Ooh-la-la.
What do you think??

Here’s what we need to make this look in our own house…

>> INDUSTRIAL LAMP from Hudson Goods
>> AFRICAN Taxidermy Skull Mount frm Newel
>> TURKISH PILLOWS frm Turkish Rugs & Kilims
>> Painted Sofa Table frm DIRECT FROM MEXICO
>> Raleigh SOFA FROM DWR
>> COWHIDE

I was looking through some old magazines and came across the image {BELOW}. I LOVE that ceiling!! The old barn wood makes the vaulted ceiling look rich and interesting. It’s not the first place you normally think about making a statement in a room… but maybe it should be.
WHAT KIND OF INTERESTING CELINGS HAVE YOU SEEN OR PUT IN YOUR HOME??
WHICH OF THESE IS YOUR FAVORITE??

{Country Living, May 2005, Photo by Steven Randazzo}
This image is from the kitchen of Robin Brown {aka Magnolia Pearl}. Her home was pictured in Country Living back in 2005 and it’s pretty spectacular. Definitely one of a kind!! This old ceiling tin in the kitchen is just the tip of the iceberg. She has a book out now {BELOW} with tons of other ideas that you could adapt to any style of decor… great for inspiration!!

A cathedral devoted to NATURE…

Love this idea for adding to a work space or kid’s room… the pressed leaves are so pretty… it would also be fun to have kiddos draw pictures of clouds and have those pinned to the ceiling.

Check out the BRICK CEILINGS in these lofts in Boston… sold.

As I get older, and my personal design style transforms, I find straightforward decor and classic style feels far RICHER than more complicated collections and dizzying combinations of color. The home pictured in the images below are a fantastic example of the seemingly effortless design I find so appealing. Clean lines, rich textures, and minimal clutter.
What about you?? Do you prefer more or less “stuff”??

{Images from Western Interiors Magazine, Photography by Dominique Vorillon}
Here are a few sources for re-creating this
Cassic & Clean Rustic * Western look:

‘Wildflowers Sunset’ ~ Pastel painting from Karen Winters
I love the colors in this painting…

Plaid Pendleton Blanket
It doesn’t get more classic than this.

Bennu Armchair from Pier One
There’s a RATTAN REVOLUTION coming… are you geting on board??

Antique Navajo Rug Pillow from Medicine Man Gallery
There are several to choose from, each one has great colors & character!!

Trunk Coffee Table from Horchow
Now that’s rich looking… made from alder wood and leather… it’s rustic, versatile, and gorgeous in just about any house!!

Vintage Burlwood Lamp with Rawhide Shade
A great detail to complete the look!!

Last night I was going through more old magazines
{it feels like a task that will never end ~ do they reproduce at night or what??} and I hit a pile from 2003 -2005. It was interesting how many of the rooms were WHITE & SHABBY, even more interesting to realize how long that trend has hung on. After about 1o magazines I thought that I’d never land on an image that I could post then I turned the page and did a little gasp at this photograph.

Here’s what I love about it… vintage rattan that has contemporary rustic feeling, antique shutters and accessories… and of course the mannequin heads which seem to be a requisite for authentic vintage style. Here are a few sources for recreating this look in your own home…

Mountain Majesty Vintage Painting from Wolf House on ETSY

Blue Glass Vintage Ribbed Pitcher from Sage Olive on ETSY

Antique Mannequin Heads from Marge Crunkleton
Do these freak anyone else out?? What about the baby doll heads that you can find in every antique mall in the country?? It’s very odd to me ~ I don’t why. But then I love big Longhorn and Elk mounts in a living room which most people find a bit crazy so I guess that’s what makes each of our spaces unique, finding and living with the things we love.

Vintage Clover Cut-Out Shutters from Plum Tree Antiques
These babies are SOLD, but they were too perfect not to share!! Check out the rest of this site for regular updates of new antique inventory in stock.

Split Reed Art Deco Chair from Objects in the Loft
What a great chair ~ it looks so modern and clean, but it’s actually from the 1930′s. They have a great selection of vintage rattan that you’ll LOVE.

Savanna Tuscany Fabric from Full Swing Textiles

The idea of being a real life COWGIRL holds a tremendous amount of romance and intrigue. For me it does, anyway… the idea of a hard day’s work out under a big blue sky, followed by an evening under the stars being serenaded by a rugged cowboy… Now I know damn well that isn’t how it really works, but it’s definitely that notion that lures folks from every sort of life to want a little Western vibe in their homes.

Bedroom & Bath Magazine, Summer 2002
This vintage cowgirl room happens to be one of my favorites… more so because I actually slept in this room one night of my life. It’s a long story of how that happened but imagine my surprise when a few years later I opened a magazine and saw that very same room where I had slept. So I saved the pic & pulled it out today for a little INSPIRATION & sources for you to re-create this look and your own Vintage Cowgirl Bedroom…

Good Fortune Horseshoe Hooked Rug from Horse and Hound Gallery
Newfield Bed from Charles P. Rogers Direct

Double D Ranchwear Bedding from Frontier Outfitters

Star Curtain Rod

Antique Craftsman Table from Whitetrash Upcycle Recycle

Vintage Boots from The Lucky Star Gallery
I always say that I’m “all hat & no cow”… just a city girl livin’ a small town life who happens to appreciate the crazy hard work it takes to be a real life COWGIRL. I’m not sure that my citified bones could what those women do day in and day out. Either way, I sure love dressing and decorating the part, always paying homage to the girls who are really doing the nitty gritty day to day cowgirl stuff ~ hats off to you.
